Inkreate Consortium participated in the first Review Meeting after a year from the beginning of the project. Partners went to EC-DG Connect facilities in Brussels, on February 14th 2018.

On the Commission side, Project Officer Albert Gauthier headed the meeting, with the help of two renowned reviewers, Dr. Jane Harris, Associate Dean of Research, Professor of Digital Design & Innovation at London College of Fashion of the University of the Arts London and Dr. Ruth Mateus-Berr, Univ. Prof. Mag. Art. Dr. Phil. at University of Applied Arts Vienna.

The aim of the meeting was to present to the European Commission the firsts results obtained by InKreate consortium, which include the IBV’s library of avatars that will be available for future InKreate users.

The library, introduced by Project Director Juan V. Durá, includes different body shapes for each gender, in different heights and sizes.

As Zorana Kozomara from the Dutch firma Body2Garment (B2G) pointed out “The main objective of InKreate is to improve the process of designing clothes collections with tools that eliminate manual tasks and leverage the use of recent ICT technologies. IBV’s avatar technology made our tool unique in the world”.

Olga Tseitline from the Israeli company Browzwear (BZW) performed together with Zorana Kozomara a live demonstration of the sketch tool developed by them.

Right after that, InKreate presents its four different pilot cases with the cooperation of the creative SMEs from the apparel market participating in the project: KATTY FASHION (Rumania), DDUE (Spain), P&R TEXTEIS (Portugal) and TITERA (Slovenia). Gabriela Itfode, project manager at KATTY FASHION, will coordinate the pilots that will start in March.

Mihai Lupu of the Romanian association FIT presented the dissemination activities, and finally Giuseppe Caprara from IBV showed the financial situation and the overall progress report.

The project, aims to improve the apparel design process using low cost 3D scanners and 3D sketching tools.

Whereas the manufacturing and distribution of apparel has advanced in past years with the application of new CAM and ITC technologies, the design process is still very traditional: currently there are no 3D tools adapted to the needs of creative designing of clothes.

The EC was “impressed” by results achieved and defined InKreate as a “terrific project with a great consortium”. Reviewers added “InKreate is facing a sensitive problem in fashion industry and it lays the foundation stone to solve it”.

All the InKreate partners participated in the meeting, with the sole absence of ATP (Portugal).

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 731885.
